The garden takes shape
I have been gardening for over 30 years, but moving from Oklahoma to South Carolina makes me feel like a beginner again.

Clio Cotton Festival
The Clio Cotton Festival was held this past Saturday in downtown Clio (at the town's only traffic light). I was an emcee from 9am until Noon, and it was a fun way to spend a Saturday. My family came along, and my girls had a great time. Olivia's comment on the ride home was "I want to do this again and again and again!".

Scoping Out the Competition
One of the best ways to stay on top of your game is to occasionally look back and see what your competition is doing. You don't want to be too fixated on them and lose focus of what you are doing, but you still want to check them out once in a while to see what they are doing that is new.

A good day fishing before it got rough
I got in some fishing before the sea turned angry. Now the source of our wind may turn tropical.

Would you evacuate?
I recently came across an interesting poll that questioned 5,000 people aged 18 or older that lived within 20 miles of the coast from Texas to North Carolina. The subject was hurricanes, and how prepared people are for a hurricane.

Tropical Update
The tropics are becoming a little active this week, with four areas to watch, but none of these areas are threatening the Carolinas.

Hot gasoline is less of a bargain
I guess I never thought of this, but filling up the gas tank is a better deal in the winter than summer. The temperature of gasoline plays a big part in how much fuel is actually going into your car.

A tale of two cold fronts
We cannot really complain about the hot weather in July and August, because it is supposed to be hot in July and August. But once school starts and Labor Day comes and goes, this day after day of 90-95 degree weather starts to take it's toll. Football is on TV... it is supposed to cool down by now. And where is the rain? We have been watering our lawns all summer long, we need a break!

Gabrielle teases North Carolina
The drought across the Carolinas this summer has been especially bad in North Carolina, where much of the state remains in extreme drought. While it has been dry in South Carolina as well, many places to the north are measuring the 2007 rainfall deficit in feet. Some people have been looking toward the tropics for relief from the drought, and that relief almost came this past weekend.
