This morning I was 200 feet above the ground to take photos of the new sign at the McDonalds next to I95.

South Florence student Jason Owen plants a kiss on the cheek of Ashley Farrill during the South Florence Junior/ Senior Prom, held at the school on
April 5, 2008. See Sunday’s Pee Dee Living for the complete photo essay.

I had the opportunity to cover the Florence County DSN Board’s Preliminary Talent Competition at the Matthew B. Wallace Center this morning. It never stops amazing me how full of life people are no matter what their situation maybe.

I had a fun sequence from today’s baseball game and decided to play in Photoshop a little bit. I stitched three these photos together for a quick photo illustration.

It was a wonderful morning, while drinking my coffee on my porch I noticed a huge flock of birds in my neighbor’s back yard. As my mother and I both keep lists of all the different birds we see I needed to check it out. I put on my glasses, grabbed my 300 mm lens and wandered next door. I had suspected that the flock was Cedar Waxwings passing through their migration to their breeding grounds in Southern Canada. I was right. There we at least a few hundred of them devouring my neighbor’s berry tree. The flock didn’t seem to notice, or care I was there so I hung out for a while. In a short time the flock had cleaned the tree clean of berries. Here are a few of my favorite shots from this morning. I hope we have room in the paper for them.

Today I was fortunate enough to be allowed to cover a laproscopic gall bladder surgery with Dr. Anthony Cutry at Carolinas Hospital System. This was an amazing opportunity, these days medical access is very limited to the media, often with good reason. I am grateful to the staff at Carolinas, Dr. Cutry and his surgical team, and most importantly the patient under going the surgery for allowing me to be a part of this procedure. I consider this opportunity a great gift.
This photo won’t be seen in the daily paper, yet it is my favorite from this morning’s surgery.

I had the chance to hang out today with Stingers shortstop Barrett Kleinknecht for a portrait shoot. Barrett is a great guy and very fun to work with. Today was a great chance for me to spend sometime working on portraits using off camera lighting. I did a lot of “lighting” while I was in school but haven’t had the chance recently, I really enjoyed playing with light again. This photo is my favorite from the day.

While covering the State Basketball Championships this weekend in Columbia these three girls, members of the Double Dutch Forces, an award winning group from Columbia were waiting in the wings to perform between games. I didn’t have time to photograph their performance but I love this quiet little moment of them waiting.

Tough day for the Lee Central Girls
my heart goes out to them

I had the chance to cover a Zumba class at a local gym this morning. This is a photo I made for me. On a side note, I LOVE square photos.

Perry Grice is the Marketing Officer for Anderson Brothers Bank in Mullins, and a really, really nice guy. This is the last photo I took during our meeting yesterday and yet another example of a photo that may not read well in the paper but I really like.

I was on an assignment today for an upcoming story, while the reporter was doing his thing I set up my camera and flashes. I had everything the way I wanted it but needed a “stand in” for my subject. Ray was kind enough to step in for me. Thanks Ray. Look for the “real” photo in Sunday’s paper.
