On my way to the office this morning the Florence Fire Department was doing their twice annual fire hydrant checks in front of my house and around the neighborhood where I live. I stopped and hung out with them for a few minutes, learned something new, and made this photo of Captain Mike Ward tightening the top of the hydrant after testing.
I have not shot soccer in more than a year, it was awesome!! Too bad that FMU lost, but still a great day at work for me.

I just returned from my first real vacation in more than three years. Sure I’ve had time off in those years but I hadn’t had a true lay on the beach, drinks beer, and think of nothing vacation, so I flew home to Rhode Island to spent time with family and old friends. Our favorite waterfront bar is called the Ocean Mist in Matunuck, RI. Sort of off the path they offer up the best fish tacos, tasty margaritas, and ice cold Narragansett beer, not to mention a view of Block Island, great people and sand for your toes why you wait for a table and on a Sunday in the summer you will wait hours). Really, its an eclectic little place if you are ever in RI find it and enjoy.

Ever since I moved to Florence in August last year I have driven past the farm on Cashua Drive with the funky twisted chimney. I have always wondered why the chimney had the strange twist in it. Yesterday, by chance I went to the farm for an upcoming story on owner George Harrington who was born in the front room of the house which once stood around the chimney. He said he wasn’t sure but thinks it was build this way to heat all four rooms of the house. Anybody out there know anything else about these twisted chimneys? It’s so interesting to me and I’d love to learn more.

A few photos from tonight’s Florence Mayoral Debate at FMU. Considering I am still kind of new here in Florence, it was quite an education for me.

I love baseball, working or not. Last summer while I interned with The Salisbury Post in Salisbury N.C. I spent most of my summer nights working on the ball field. This week I was lucky enough to shoot 2 Redwolves games, a rare treat for me as I generally work day shift. I hope to have many more nights on the ball field this summer, working or not.

I was shooting an illustration on picnic safety today when I had a visitor to my sandwich. See Saturday’s Morning News for the final photo.

An aerial view of the infield from the helicopter.

Me on the DC-3 yesterday.
I say it all the time, I truly love my job. I get to do some really amazing things everyday and this year’s May Fly, my first, was no exception. On Friday I rode in a Biplane and a DC-3 transporter, today I rode in a helicopter with the door off. Totally cool.
