For those who don’t know, Lynyrd Skynyrd died in 1977
After spending my childhood listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd, I like many southern rock fans, know more than a few songs of the legendary Jacksonville, Florida band. Watching the new Lynyrd Skynyrd Friday night in Marion stirred up a few thoughts about those left to carry on the music of a band that died in a fiery plane crash in a patch of Mississippi swamp.

Some stories remind us of what’s important
In my time here at WBTW, I never thought a story about a nanny cam and a child abuse case would ever generate so much conversation. I guess it just goes to show what people care about. When we broke the story about a Murrells Inlet nanny being charged with child abuse and child neglect, I thought it would be a run-of-the-mill news story, that's until I learned the details of the case and sat down to listen to a father describe the most horrific thing I believe he's ever seen.

NASCAR, nothing like it used to be
I remember the days when names like Elliott, Earnhardt, Allison, Bodine, and even a couple Pettys made NASCAR headlines.

“Racing people,” more than what you think
For the second time in my short journalism career, I'm trading in a week on the crime beat for a week of returning back to my racing roots covering the 50th Daytona 500. After spending more than half my life around "racing people," the values and lessons I learned from them continue to shape who I am today.

The legal system is a beautiful thing
After sitting in court for two weeks, I gained a valuable lesson in civics and a renewed appreciation for what makes this country great.
