Today Frank Johnson has a high school student shadowing him to see what being a TV meteorologist is all about. She’s a junior in high school, trying to narrow down college options and even career choices. Thinking back, it hasn’t been terribly long since I was in that same boat. But then I think of all that has happened since then: the places I have gone, the people I have met, and the experiences I have obtained.
I just returned from the Traces Golf course in Florence after visiting with the fine folks out there putting on a charity golf tournament. Troop 5 of the South Carolina Highway Patrol was hosting their 13th Annual Make-A-Wish golf tourney. What a GREAT tournament! Unlike in years past, I wasn’t able to play this year for various reasons. Usually my team consists of three other wanna-be golfers John Martin, Cecil Chandler, and former SC State Rep. Jim McGee. We’re terrible, but we have a great time and those around us do as well. Someone has to provide the comic relief!
We’re taking our show on the road once again, as News 13 at 5:00 and 6:00 originates from FMU.
Nothing like a good “dog bites man” story to hold our attention
Vinson Filyaw, the Kershaw County man accused of kidnapping a 14-year-old girl and raping her in an underground bunker plead guilty, rather than face a trial.
I guess I never thought of this, but filling up the gas tank is a better deal in the winter than summer. The temperature of gasoline plays a big part in how much fuel is actually going into your car.
We’re almost at the midway point in the high school football season. Some teams futures are becoming clearer, while others are as foggy as ever.
Jury selection is now underway in Beaufort in the trial of Vinson Filyaw.
Blogging the outdoors? If you told me this time last year that I would be writing a “blog”, I would’ve said “You’re crazy”! Are you kidding me? People want to read the random thoughts of Eric Walters? My boss David Hart asked (told) me I would soon be blogging several months ago. I kind of let it go in one ear and out the other. Then I started thinking about it and even got a little bit nervous about it. I am the Managing Editor at News 13, and to most in the community, I’m the news guy. You know, the person you talk to when you want something covered by the TV station. Then I asked myself, Big E, what do you want to write about? We have plenty of folks from the News department writing blogs , how can you be different?
Dr. David DeCenzo will be sworn in today as Coastal Carolina University’s second President.
Former Robeson County Sheriff Glenn Maynor faces big-time charges after a long-term investigation
One of our reporters, Jody Barr, just got back from Conway, where he attended this afternoon’s court hearing for Edwin Cornelius, the suspect in last year’s stabbing death of Natalia Holmes outside Carolina Forest High School.
A few people around the television station give me a good-natured hard time about my sign off, “stay cool, drive safe.“
Just trying to figure out what a blog is and what I am supposed to do with it. It can only get better from here. Right??
